오후에는 한국공군 전 부대원을 대상으로

미공군 386원정비행 단장이

Welcome Briefing을 하는 것에 참석했다.

Ali Al Salem History

Ali Al Salem Air Base opened in 1977, built by Yugoslavia and France.

The base originally operated Mirage F-1, A-4s, and helicopters.

During the 1990 Invasion of Kuwait by Iraq, 16 Iraqi aircraft were shot down by the Kuwaiti Air Force.

Kuwait was liberated by coalition forces on February 26, 1991

U.S. operations at Ali Al Salem began in 1994, and continue to this day.

1994 – A Control and Reporting Element is established at the base.

1998 – The 9th Air Expeditionary Group is activated to provide support for contingency operations.

2000 – 9th AEG is designated as the 386th Air Expeditionary Group.

2002 – The 386th Air Expeditionary Wing is established. The 386th AEW carries forth the heraldry of the 386th Bombardment Group, which was activated December 1, 1942 at MacDill Field, near Tampa, Florida. The unit crests of the four squadrons assigned to the Group – the 552nd, 553rd, 554th and the 555th Bombardment Squadrons – are incorporated into the current unit crest.

The 386th AEW is home to numerous joint and coalition personnel, supporting Operations ENDURING FREEDOM and IRAQI FREEDOM.

Our Wing Commander uses the phrase “Boots on the Ground” to describe our mission here.

Everything we do here is designed to optimize the airlift of people and equipment into the OIF AOR.

On that note, some of the creature comforts that you’ve come to expect in the AOR, you’ll not find here.

However, you will find that we are working to provide you with the safest possible flying environment,

basic crew lodging and hygiene facilities, and edible food in a clean environment.

I am more than happy to take your suggestions for how we can serve you better,

but even with $100M more to spend, we are going to put it into concrete ramp, runway and radar projects,

not into the Haagen-Dazs cooler.

We are not Frankfurt, Al-Udeid, or your Base X back home.

We are Ali-Al-Salem—also known as “The Rock”—Boots on the Ground.

386 AEW Policies

• The area in and around the flightline and Hangar 17 is a no-hat no-salute area; for all areas on the Rock, standard customs and courtesies apply.
• Reflective belts must be worn at all times during hours of darkness.
• Do not wear the floppy hat rolled up or around the neck..
• Do not wear sunglasses on a cord around your neck, on top of your head, or hanging from a pocket when in uniform.
• Limit morale calls and use of morale computers to 15 minutes.
• Smoking is only allowed in designated areas.

 

 

전반적인 미군 지휘부의 입장은

한국공군에 상당히 호의적으로 대하는 것 같은 인상을 받았다

우리부대는 미군이 제공하는

사방 100미터의 부지에 자체기지를 건설하기로 했다.

그러나 자체기지의 건설이 늦어짐에 따라

우리는 미군의 텐트 및 식당 시설을

불가피하게 사용할 수밖에 없었다.

미군 지휘부는 우리를 흔쾌히 환영하였다.

 

다이만 부대장 장군진급 발표

텐트에서 나와 야밤에 완전복장에 형광밴드를 착용하고 중대발표(????)를 기다리고있다

오늘 우리 다이만 부대장인

강대희 대령의 진급발표가 있었다.

“준장(진) 강대희”.

이로서

전 지휘관 및 참모가

진급하였다.

사막에 옹기종기??모여서 알콜 없는 , 무알콜 루트비어를 들고 축하하는 다이만 부대원
